Simmons & Simmons is recruiting over 25 other roles this month as it reveals plans to have over 100 fee-earners by April 2019.

The firm’s latest hire is TLT partner James Dean, who has joined to boost the firm’s pensions offering.

Dean joined TLT in 2012 as a partner after a number of senior associate roles in firms including Osborne Clarke, Burges Salmon and Berwin Leighton Paisner. He will advise on pension scheme investments, corporate restructurings/M&A and public sector pensions. His clients include sponsoring employers, trustees and providers and public sector bodies.

Dean’s arrival expands the services Simmons & Simmons offers from the Bristol office, which opened in 2012 with 12 fee earners and five business services staff. More than 25 other roles have been filled or are actively being recruited as of May 2017.

A Simmons & Simmons spokesperson said: “This growth can also help us where we have small teams in international offices as these additional resources available in Bristol may help to staff matters that we would otherwise not be able to pitch for. Our plans for growth continue: the objective is to have 100 fee earners in Bristol by April 2019.”

Simmons & Simmons’ pensions offering ranges from multi-jurisdictional corporate transactions, on-going advice to pensions clients as well as advising overseas asset managers in relation to their offering to UK pension schemes.

The spokesperson added: “We continue to expand in Bristol. The arrival of James Dean expands the services we offer from Bristol to include pensions.  This has grown from our original ‘pillar’ practices of Projects, Real Estate, Banking and Dispute Resolution in 2012.  Since then we have since added funds, capital markets, employment, corporate, tax, ICT and – most recently – insurance capabilities.”

In May 2017, Mahrie Webb, a partner specialising in investment funds and financial services regulatory work, took on the role as head of Bristol office, while Colin Passmore was re-elected as senior partner to begin his fourth term in August 2017.
