Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg never told the Associated Press that she plans to resign to protest the election of Donald Trump, according to a story by the wire service.
The fake news story about Ginsburg’s intentions has been circulating since it first appeared in July, the Associated Press reports. The story was apparently first published by a news and satire site called therightist.com, which acknowledges that not all of its stories are true. Several websites picked up the story in December.
Ginsburg did tell the Associated Press in a July 7 story that she didn’t want to think about the possibility of a Trump presidency, “but if it should be, then everything is up for grabs.” She also criticized Trump in remarks to the New York Times and CNN.
But Ginsburg did not tell AP, “I can tolerate this charade of a presidential campaign, but I could not live with him as president.”
