Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer finance partner Dougall Molson has left the firm to join Fieldfisher’s finance practice in London.
Molson was based in the magic circle firm’s Paris office for 15 years, where he was local head of the finance group. He took on the role in 2011 from Hervé Touraine, moving back to London in 2015.
As a member of Freshfields’ structured finance group, Molson has worked with companies including Talk Talk as well as the arrangers of Trafigura’s securitisation programme.
It’s understood that his new role will involve developing the firm’s Paris office, which has a total of 18 partners.
Fieldfisher’s head of derivatives and structured finance Guy Usher said: “Having worked in France, Molson has a good understanding of the intricacies of the French derivatives market which will help develop our Paris office’s practice in that area.”
He added that Molson focuses on Fieldfisher’s key sector areas, such as financial services and energy.
Molson’s hire follows Fieldfisher’s recruitment of Mayer Brown partner Richard Todd. Freshfields also recently completed a review of its finance practice, assessing the group as part of a bid to increase profitability.
