Channel 5 general counsel Marcus Lee is to lead Viacom International Media Networks’ (VIMN) UK division after a company restructure.

Lee has been Channel 5’s legal boss for nearly seven years, after a series of media roles in-house.

After training at legacy Charles Russell between 2000 and 2002, he was legal director at Portland Media Group, as well as an adviser at Express Newspapers and Paramount Home Entertainment.

The role change is a promotion for Lee, who was previously solely responsible for VIMN’s subsidiary Channel 5.

He will now take charge of the legal affairs for VIMN’s other subsidiaries – MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon – after Channel 5 and VIMN’s UK divisions were combined under Lee’s line management.

The new department will have overall responsibility for all legal and regulatory matters for Viacom’s branded networks in the UK, Northern and Eastern Europe.

Lee will report to VIMN general counsel Caryn Groce and chief operating officer Paul Dunthorne. US-based Groce took the top job last month after the departure of former legal boss Michael Fricklas.
